Clay Storage
Unused clay should be stored in airtight containers to prevent it from hardening and drying out.
Resealable bags are a great option for this purpose. Remember to squeeze out any excess air from the bag before sealing it with adhesive tape, and then store the bag in a plastic container for added protection.
Avoid Clay Stickiness
If the clay is sticky and you encounter any of the following situations—stretching it until it's very thin, molding a figure using a silicone mold, or finding it sticking to your hands when you try to work with it.
Here's what you can do:
- Sprinkle a small amount of cornstarch or talcum powder on your work surface and hands.
(*Note: Avoid using excessive amounts of cornstarch /talcum powder, as these can dry out the
clay if overused.)
- Alternatively, you can use petroleum jelly, baby oil or hand cream.
- If you're using a rolling machine, it's advisable to spray oil on the rollers before rolling out the clay.
- When using molds, it's best to apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly, cornstarch or talcum powder, liquid coconut oil, or hand cream before placing the clay into the mold.
